Shredded Tyre Rubber Surfaces in Lancashire
Chris Watson and Sons also shred passenger vehicle tyres to produce 'rubber chips', which has a variety of uses including surfacing for horse arenas, tracks and childrens playground surfaces. It helps to prevent injuries from falls and is a brilliant shock absorber.
Equestrian Surfaces
Shredded rubber is commonly used as 'footing' in training rinks and arenas. When mixed with sand, the rubber creates a soft but firm surface that reduces ruts and helps to control dust. This surface is easy to maintain, it just takes a small amount of raking very occasionally- to keep the surface even.
Cleaned Rubber
Tyres are washed and checked for foreign bodies before shredding into small pieces then a series of magnets remove the wire, and the rubber is checked for any impurities . Only the cleanest rubber (99.9% wire free) is sold, leaving the rest to be re-shredded, or to be used for other applications.
Recycling tyres in this way is extremely beneficial to the environment, as tyres are non-biodegradable, and have previously been sent to land fills where they will sit for many years and could become a severe fire hazard, and be harmfull to the environment.
